The plan
Fly LIS Lisbon. 3 nights hostels in Bairro Alto or Alfama, $25/night. Free walking tours, Time Out Market (cheap), sunset at Miradouro da Senhora do Monte. Day 4 train to Sintra 40 min, Pena Palace and Moorish Castle day trip, return Lisbon. Day 5 morning high-speed train Lisbon-Porto 3h ($30). 3 nights Porto: Ribeira waterfront, port wine tasting in Vila Nova de Gaia (many cellars offer cheap tastings), Livraria Lello (book ahead), Serralves Museum. Fly home from OPO. Portugal's food is cheap and excellent — pasteis de nata, bifana sandwiches, sardines.
