London Gatwick Airport
London Gatwick Airport is the second-busiest airport in the United Kingdom and one of the busiest single-runway airports in the world. LGW handles around 44 million passengers per year and sits about 28 miles south of central London. The airport has a single main runway, which constrains its maximum capacity but which has been operated with extreme efficiency to maximize the number of movements per day. Gatwick is a major base for easyJet, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Norwegian, TUI, and numerous other carriers. The airport is particularly important for leisure traffic to Mediterranean destinations and transatlantic services. Gatwick has two terminals: North and South. The airport is connected to central London by the Gatwick Express train, which reaches Victoria Station in about 30 minutes. Over the years, Gatwick has debated constructing a second runway, but no final decision has been made despite repeated proposals. The airport is the world's busiest single-runway operation.
