Beijing Capital International Airport
Beijing Capital International Airport is one of the two major airports serving Beijing and one of the busiest airports in the world. PEK handles around 40 million passengers per year (down from its peak of over 100 million before the pandemic and the opening of Beijing Daxing) and sits about 20 miles northeast of central Beijing. PEK is the primary hub for Air China and handles extensive domestic and international operations. The airport has three terminals (T1, T2, and T3), with T3 being the largest and primary international terminal. T3 was designed by Norman Foster and opened in 2008 for the Beijing Olympics. It was, at the time, the largest airport terminal building in the world. PEK's traffic has been gradually redistributing to Beijing Daxing (PKX) since the new airport opened in 2019, with some international routes moving to PKX and domestic routes distributed between both airports.
