The Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 737 MAX 10 are both large narrowbodies, but they are not trying to solve exactly the same problem. The A321XLR stretches range to open long thin international routes; the 737 MAX 10 stretches capacity for dense short- and medium-haul Boeing fleets.
The A321XLR's 4,700 nm range is the defining advantage. It can cover transatlantic and long thin routes that a 737 MAX 10 is not built to serve, which gives airlines more network options from secondary cities.
Boeing publishes 185-210 seats in two classes and up to 230 seats for the 737-10. The model targets more capacity within the 737 MAX family, but it was still in certification on the review date, so airline layouts and in-service operating results were not yet available.
A321XLR operators can use an in-service aircraft with a published 4,700-nmi range. The 737-10 proposition is higher capacity and 737-family commonality, but delivery timing remains subject to regulatory certification and production.
For a long-range narrowbody available today, the A321XLR is the applicable aircraft. The 737-10 is a shorter-range, higher-capacity family member whose commercial comparison must remain provisional until certification and airline service.
