American's 2025 Form 10-K reports 1,013 mainline aircraft and a simplified long-haul fleet of 777s and 787s. Delta operates A330s, A350s, and 767s on long-haul routes. A raw fleet count does not show regional affiliates, aircraft gauge, utilization, or schedule quality.
American is often the better fit when a trip runs through Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, Miami, Philadelphia, Phoenix, or Oneworld partners. Delta is often better when Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, Seattle, New York, or SkyTeam partners create the cleaner itinerary.
