How to play Livery
Livery is FlightQ’s daily airline guessing game, with Easy, Medium, Hard and a separate Historic puzzle. Read the colours, watch the tail take shape, and name the airline in six guesses.
- Choose Easy, Medium, Hard or Historic at the top. Each has its own daily airline, six guesses and saved progress. Historic uses classic paint schemes and former airlines. Unlimited includes current, alternate and cargo designs, with its own saved round.
- Study the tail colours. The opening pie chart shows how much of the fin each colour covers.
- Type an airline name or IATA code, then select a suggestion to make your guess.
- A wrong guess rearranges the same coloured pixels, bringing the tail design a little more into focus.
- Name the airline within six guesses. Even the sixth clue is soft; the crisp tail is revealed when the round ends.
- Open your result to share, or choose View aircraft to inspect the full livery.
What is Livery?
An airline’s livery is its aircraft paint scheme. Livery begins with the tail’s colours in their true proportions, then reveals the design a little at a time. The challenge is recognising an airline from its colours, shapes and markings.
Reading the clues
Start with the largest colour and the contrast colours. After each miss, look for the direction of a stripe, a curved emblem or a distinctive shape. You can search by airline name, two-letter IATA code or country. A guess only counts when you select an airline from the suggestions.
Results, XP and sharing
Fewer guesses make a better result. A correct daily answer earns XP through the shared FlightQ progression system, once per daily difficulty. Historic, Unlimited, losses, archive and review plays earn no daily XP. Share your colour row and guess trail from the result card; the airline name stays out of the shared text.
Frequently asked questions
Does everyone get the same tail?
Yes. Everyone gets the same airline for each difficulty on a given date. Easy, Medium, Hard and Historic change at midnight Eastern Time.
Do the colours change after a wrong guess?
No. The amount of each colour stays the same. Only the arrangement changes, revealing more of the design.
How does XP work?
Each correct daily difficulty earns its own XP award through your FlightQ progress. A loss earns no XP. Historic and Unlimited rounds do not award XP or affect the regular daily streaks. Reloading a finished puzzle, playing the archive, or using the review tool does not earn another daily award.
Can I play an earlier day?
Today and yesterday are free. Older puzzles are available through the Premium archive.
What gets shared?
Your result shows the puzzle number, tail colours and guess trail, without naming the airline. Its link opens the date and difficulty you played. Cancelling the share sheet does not copy anything; you can choose Copy result afterward.
Will my guesses be saved?
Daily, archive and Unlimited guesses are saved in this browser when local storage is available. Keep using the same browser to resume an unfinished puzzle.
