Leonardo Da Vinci (Fiumicino) International Airport
Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, commonly known as Fiumicino or FCO, is the primary international airport for Rome and one of the busiest in Italy. FCO handles around 44 million passengers per year and sits about 22 miles southwest of central Rome. The airport is the primary hub for ITA Airways, the successor to Alitalia which was relaunched in 2021 after Alitalia's final bankruptcy. FCO also handles substantial operations from Ryanair, easyJet, Emirates, Qatar Airways, and most major European flag carriers. Rome's tourism-driven economy makes FCO one of the most seasonal airports in Europe, with peak demand during summer months. The airport has multiple terminals (T1, T3, T5) arranged in a modular configuration. FCO is connected to central Rome by the Leonardo Express train to Termini Station and by regional trains to other points in the Lazio region. The airport is frequently mentioned for its efficiency improvements in recent years, having recovered from a period of operational challenges in the 2000s.
