Daniel K Inouye International Airport
Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, formerly known as Honolulu International, is the primary gateway to Hawaii and one of the busiest island airports in the world. HNL handles around 21 million passengers per year and sits about four miles west of downtown Honolulu on Oahu. The airport is a hub for Hawaiian Airlines and handles substantial operations from American, United, Delta, Alaska, Southwest, and multiple Asian carriers. The international network is particularly strong to East Asia, with daily flights to Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Taipei, Shanghai, and other Asian gateways. HNL is also the connecting point for most interisland flights within Hawaii, operated primarily by Hawaiian Airlines on the 717 and now (post-Alaska merger) increasingly by Alaska-branded 737s. The airport has three terminals: the main terminal, the inter-island terminal, and the commuter terminal. HNL's infrastructure has been challenged by continuous growth in tourism, and expansion projects have focused on gate capacity, air cargo facilities, and passenger flows.
