The Boeing 777 and Airbus A350 are large twin-engine widebody families. To keep the numbers comparable, the table uses the in-service 777-300ER and A350-900 rather than mixing them with the not-yet-delivered 777X or a special ultra-long-range cabin configuration.
The A350 is a newer clean-sheet design with a composite-intensive structure. Seat count, payload, stage length, maintenance, and purchase terms can change the result.
A 777-300ER commonly uses 10-abreast economy, while many A350-900 operators use nine abreast; individual airlines choose seat width, pitch, padding, and cabin density. Airbus publishes a below-6,000-foot cabin-altitude target for the A350. Check the airline's exact layout before treating either airframe as a guaranteed cabin experience.
The A350-900 has the longer manufacturer-published range in this pairing. The longer 777-300ER has the higher reference passenger count. For freight, the 777F is already in service; Airbus said the A350F was expected to enter service in 2027 as of this review.
