Los Angeles International Airport
Los Angeles International Airport is the busiest airport on the US West Coast and one of the largest international gateways in the Americas. LAX handles around 87 million passengers per year and is used by over 80 different airlines connecting Los Angeles to the rest of the world. The airport is spread across eight terminals, with the Tom Bradley International Terminal handling most foreign airline operations and the numbered terminals (T1 through T8) serving American carriers. LAX is not a primary hub for any single airline but rather a co-hub for several, most prominently American Airlines, United Airlines, and Delta Air Lines. Alaska Airlines has a growing presence. International carriers with major operations at LAX include Qantas, British Airways, Air New Zealand, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Korean Air, and ANA. The airport has been undergoing a multi-decade renovation that will eventually include an automated people-mover connecting the terminals, a consolidated rental car facility, and a light rail connection to the Los Angeles Metro system. The Los Angeles International Airport code stood as LA when two-letter codes were used in the 1930s, and the X was appended during the transition to three-letter IATA codes, which is why the code reads as though it were an abbreviation with a filler letter.
