Charlotte/Douglas International Airport

Charlotte Douglas International Airport is a major hub for American Airlines and one of the busiest airports in the southeastern United States. CLT handles around 50 million passengers per year, with American operating approximately 90 percent of the traffic. The airport sits about seven miles west of downtown Charlotte, North Carolina, and serves as a key connecting hub for American's east-of-Mississippi flying. CLT's role in American's network is particularly focused on feeding passengers between smaller southeastern cities and international destinations, with extensive service to Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America, and a few Asian cities. The airport is known for a notable interior feature: a large central rocking chair area in the main concourse that has become a defining part of the passenger experience. CLT has been expanding its facilities with new Concourse A gates and a major terminal renovation project that will modernize the older parts of the airport. The single-carrier dominance of American at CLT is among the highest concentrations at any major American hub.
