Lisbon Portela Airport
Lisbon Portela Airport is the primary airport for Portugal and one of the busiest in Southern Europe. LIS handles around 30 million passengers per year and sits about five miles north of central Lisbon. The airport is the primary hub for TAP Air Portugal, which has built its network around Lisbon's position as a gateway between Europe and the Americas, particularly Brazil. LIS also handles extensive operations from easyJet, Ryanair, and other low-cost carriers. Lisbon's role as Portugal's capital and a major tourism destination has driven rapid growth at the airport. The airport has two terminals (T1 and T2). LIS is connected to central Lisbon by the Metro, which provides direct access to the city center and to intercity train connections. Portugal's traditional connections to Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, and other Portuguese-speaking countries make LIS an important gateway for Lusophone international traffic.
