What Aircraft Does British Airways Fly? A Dated Fleet Guide

British Airways operates Airbus and Boeing aircraft across short- and long-haul routes, plus Embraer E190 regional jets through BA CityFlyer. Counts require a scope note because British Airways' own fleet directory includes subsidiaries but excludes franchise operators.

British Airways' reported fleet

International Airlines Group reported a British Airways fleet of 298 aircraft in its 2025 annual report. The report says British Airways took delivery of 13 new aircraft during 2025, including 12 short-haul aircraft.

British Airways' current fleet facts directory lists these active model families:

• Airbus A319;
• Airbus A320 and A320neo;
• Airbus A321 and A321neo;
• Airbus A350-1000;
• Airbus A380;
• Boeing 777-200 and 777-300;
• Boeing 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10; and
• Embraer E190 operated by BA CityFlyer.

The directory's scope includes subsidiaries and excludes franchises. That definition should travel with the 298-aircraft total.

Short-haul fleet

The A319, A320, A320neo, A321, and A321neo form the core short-haul Airbus fleet. BA CityFlyer's E190s serve a different operating role and are flown by the subsidiary, often from London City.

British Airways can use more than one cabin layout within a model. On European flights, the division between Club Europe and Euro Traveller can also move according to demand. A fleet-wide seat count is therefore less useful than the seat map for the booked flight.

Long-haul fleet

British Airways' long-haul aircraft include the A350-1000, A380, 777-200, 777-300, 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10.

These models do not share one cabin. First Class is present only on selected aircraft and configurations, and the Club Suite rollout does not make every widebody identical. The airline's aircraft pages and live seat map show the applicable configuration.

British Airways is not the whole IAG fleet

IAG also owns Aer Lingus, Iberia, LEVEL, and Vueling. The Group reported 627 in-service aircraft at year-end 2025, but only 298 were assigned to British Airways in its headline operating-company figures.

Adding Iberia or Vueling aircraft to a British Airways fleet count would mix separate airlines. Likewise, a codeshare sold by British Airways can be operated by a partner whose aircraft is not part of BA's fleet.

Future deliveries stay separate

IAG's annual report lists future deliveries including more 787-10s, 777-9s, and A350-1000s for British Airways. Those commitments explain the direction of fleet renewal but do not increase the operating count before delivery and entry into service.

For a trip, check the aircraft subtype, seat map, and operating carrier in the booking. Recheck close to departure because substitutions happen.
