What Aircraft Does United Fly? Mainline and Express Fleets

United Airlines operates one of the industry's broadest mainline fleets, with Airbus narrowbodies and Boeing narrowbody and widebody aircraft. United Express partner airlines operate a separate regional fleet. Keeping those scopes apart avoids two common errors: counting regional aircraft as United mainline and counting future orders as aircraft already flying.

United's mainline fleet

United reported 1,066 mainline aircraft in its 2025 Form 10-K:

• 572 Boeing 737-family aircraft;
• 203 Airbus A319, A320, and A321neo aircraft;
• 61 Boeing 757s;
• 53 Boeing 767s;
• 96 Boeing 777s; and
• 81 Boeing 787s.

The total includes owned and leased aircraft in the operating fleet on the reporting date.

Narrowbody aircraft

United's narrowbody fleet includes the 737-700, 737-800, 737-900, 737-900ER, 737 MAX 8, 737 MAX 9, A319, A320, and A321neo.

The A321neo is not merely a future plan. United's filing counted 59 in the mainline fleet at year end, correcting older guides that describe its entry into service as upcoming. By contrast, A321XLR and 737 MAX 10 aircraft appeared in the commitments table rather than the operating-fleet table.

United's passenger-facing aircraft page shows model and cabin information. The same model can still have more than one interior, especially while retrofits are underway.

Long-haul and other mainline aircraft

United's widebody fleet includes the 767-300ER, 767-400ER, 777-200, 777-200ER, 777-300ER, 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10. The airline also operates 757-200 and 757-300 narrowbodies, which can appear on domestic and selected international routes.

Aircraft-family labels do not guarantee a cabin. For example, United reported a range of standard seat counts within the 777-200ER and 767-300ER fleets. The seat map on the reservation is the relevant configuration for a particular flight.

United Express is separate

United reported 424 regional aircraft operated by United Express carriers at year end. The fleet included E175s, E170s, CRJ700s, CRJ550s, CRJ200s, and ERJ145XRs.

Partners including SkyWest, Mesa, Republic, GoJet, and CommuteAir operated those flights under capacity-purchase agreements. A United flight number and livery do not necessarily make United Airlines the operating carrier; the itinerary states who operates the flight.

Adding the 424 regional aircraft to 1,066 mainline aircraft creates a network-supported total, not a United mainline count.

Orders are not current aircraft

United's year-end filing listed firm commitments for more 787s, 737 MAX aircraft, A321neos, A321XLRs, and A350s. Delivery timing can change, and some types require certification. They should remain in a future-fleet section until United reports them in service.

Open the flight details and seat map, note the aircraft subtype, and read the operating-carrier line for United Express. Recheck close to departure because substitutions happen.

The dated answer is 1,066 United mainline aircraft and 424 separate regional aircraft at year-end 2025. The A321neo is active; ordered A321XLRs, MAX 10s, and A350s are not part of that operating snapshot.
