Laguardia Airport

LaGuardia Airport is one of three major airports in the New York City area and the closest to Manhattan. LGA handles around 30 million passengers per year and sits about eight miles east of Midtown Manhattan. Unlike JFK and Newark, LaGuardia is almost entirely a domestic airport, with limited international service primarily to Canada. The airport is a major hub for Delta Air Lines and has significant operations from American Airlines and United Airlines. LGA has undergone a massive $8 billion redevelopment that was completed in 2022, replacing the outdated previous terminal buildings with modern facilities featuring high ceilings, extensive retail and food options, and improved passenger flows. The airport has historically had problems with runway capacity and weather delays due to its short runways and proximity to both New York Harbor and densely populated neighborhoods. The 2022 reconstruction did not add runway capacity but did dramatically improve the terminal experience. LGA remains subject to slot controls by the FAA because of its capacity constraints.
