How to play Flyover

Flyover is a free daily geography game where you guess the country from a small patch of the world seen through an airplane window. Each day gives you one real place, drawn in a clean atlas style with every label stripped out, and six views to name it. Guess wrong and the plane climbs, pulling the window back to show more of the map.

  1. Read the patch. The first view is a tight close-up. Coastlines, rivers, lakes, islands and borders are all you get, so study the shape of the land before you guess.
  2. Guess a country. Start typing any country name. Common aliases work too, so USA, UK, UAE, Holland and Burma all resolve.
  3. Follow the arrow. Each wrong guess shows an arrow pointing from the country you guessed toward the hidden patch. Direction only, never distance.
  4. Climb for a wider view. Every miss pulls the window back, tripling the ground you can see and bringing in more recognisable geography.
  5. Name it in six. The ring at the centre marks the exact point that decides the answer, and your score is the view you solved it on.

What is Flyover?

Flyover is a free daily geography game from FlightQ, the team behind Strata, Mapfold, and SkyQ. Every patch is a real place drawn in a clean atlas style: coastlines, rivers, lakes, islands, and borders, with no labels to give it away. One new patch every day, and everyone in the world gets the same one.

Reading the arrows

The arrow on each guess points from the country you guessed toward the hidden patch. It gives you a direction but never a distance, so the arrows alone will not solve it: they narrow the world to a line, and the view out the window tells you how far along that line you are. Read the shape of the coastline, the pattern of islands, rivers and deserts, and the spacing of the latitude lines.

Scoring and strategy

Your score is the view you solved it on, so naming the country at the first window is a perfect run. Early views are close-ups, which rewards detail: glaciers, fjords, river deltas, and island chains are strong signatures. If nothing looks familiar, open with a well-placed guess to get a useful arrow, then narrow it down with each climb.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a new Flyover every day?

Yes. A new patch appears at midnight Eastern time, and everyone plays the same patch.

Do I need to know the exact spot?

No. You only name the country that contains the ringed point at the center of the window.

What maps does Flyover use?

Map data comes from OpenStreetMap contributors, redrawn in FlightQ's atlas style with all place names removed.
